Baptistery Arsago Seprio. Places to visit

The Baptistery in Arsago Seprio was built the 12th century and represents, together with the Basilica of San Vittore and the bell tower,  one of the most significant Romanesque buildings in Lombardy. The octagonal shaped baptistery dedicated to St. John the Baptist, was built under the direction of Arnolfo II of Arsalo, archbishop of Milan. The Basilica and baptistery were probably built by the same workmen, who are believed to have belonged to the group of Como masters. Inside the baptistery, two staircases were built leading upstairs to the gallery and eight niches with rectangular ground plans. Settlements have been found in Arsago Sepio that date back to the prehistoric, Gallic and Roman times. During the roman period it was an important Roman military garrison, and market place.

The local archaeological museum is also very important; founded in 1977; it is known as the leading Longobard museum in Italy.
