Villa Cicogna Mozzoni

Villa Cicogna Mozzoni. Varese Italian lakes

Built originally for the Mozzoni family as a hunting lodge in 1463, it was later remodeled and redesigned in the Renaissance style in 1559. At this time, the Campi brothers from Cremona where commissioned to paint fresco’s for the villa.

The Villa is surrounded by Italian style gardens with water gardens and grottoes planned over seven levels. The garden is terraced with a long stairway of water, built in the 17th century, leading to a small grotto temple placed at the top of the hill. On the northern side, there is another garden, developed on two terraces. The courtyard opens onto a home garden and has the sides of the porticoes frescoed with scenes of hunting on horseback, and fishing scenes.
