The Collegiata church in Castiglione d’Olona

Situated on top of the Castiglione hill overlooking the town is the Collegiata church in Castiglione d’Olona. The church was built by Castiglioni between 1422 and 1425. The design incorporates a Basilica plan with three naves and a wooden trussed ceiling. In the rectory, there are important antiphonies in parchment dating from the 12th and the 14th centuries.Housed in the old sacristy is the Collegiata Museum. Parts of the exhibit are the personal affects of Cardinal Branda.

Inside you will find the beautiful fresco styles from different periods. The most important were painted by Masolino. Masolino was born in Panicale, near Florence as Tommaso di Cristoforo Fini. He is known to have joined the Florentine painter’s guild in 1423.
